Session Overview

Forget your morning coffee – philosophers, Mark Vernon and Robert Rowland Smith, will open the conference with a ‘philosophy slam’ to put your brain through a workout. Audience members will have the opportunity to call out a single word focusing on any subject, from armadillos to Zen Buddhism, and Mark and Robert will respond for a minute or two with nuggets from philosophy, psychology, science and art. Speaker's biography

Mark Vernon is a writer, broadcaster, psychotherapist and former Anglican priest. He contributes to programmes on the radio, writes and reviews for newspapers and magazines, gives talks and podcasts. His new book is A Secret History of Christianity and previous books have covered themes including friendship and God, ancient Greek philosophy and wellbeing. He has a PhD in ancient Greek philosophy, and other degrees in physics and in theology.
